Singapore Archifest is a space for imagination, conversation, and speculation. It intends to be a platform for people from all walks of life to participate in uninhibited dialogue, creative collaboration, and thoughtful, collective deliberation, in relation to contemporary architectural issues. And with every iteration of the festival, we work towards the cultivation of a more design-conscious society and vibrant creative culture.
As the SIA celebrates its 60th anniversary since its establishment in 1963, in 2023, it reflects on its past achievements that have shaped today’s landscape of architectural excellence and asks what can be done the next 60 years and more. This year’s Archifest is a key highlight of programmes by SIA.
The Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) is a professional organisation established in 1963 with the objective of promoting the architectural profession and the built environment in Singapore.
The Institute’s mission is to champion excellence in Architecture and the Built Environment, and its vision is to see Singapore recognised as an Architecture Capital.
Today, SIA stands as the sole representative of the architectural profession in Singapore, with a membership of over 1,000 architects engaged in diverse specialisations across the built environment sector.
Don’t (just) Think Like an Architect!
This year’s theme, DON’T (JUST) THINK LIKE AN ARCHITECT challenges conventional mindsets and invites new, unconventional ways of thinking in architecture. This festival brings together visionary designers, thought leaders, and local practitioners to push the boundaries of creativity, design, and education. It will explore how architecture can transcend its usual limits by rethinking the way we educate, design, and build.
Throughout the month, dive into personal stories, groundbreaking projects, and fresh perspectives that encourage architects to leverage on their diverse skill sets to shape the environment meaningfully. It’s about moving beyond just building structures and thinking more deeply about the impact of our work on the environment and communities.
This year’s Singapore Archifest will be an invitation to think NOT JUST like an architect—because the future of architecture lies in going beyond the expected.

RT+Q ARCHITECTS
Singapore Archifest 2025 is curated by RT+Q Architects, with Festival Director Ar. Rene Tan leading the team.
Since 2003, the Singapore-based practice founded by Ar. Rene Tan and Ar. TK Quek has been exploring architecture as an interdisciplinary craft that combines both the elusive beauty of art and the rigors of building.
RT+Q has received numerous awards and mentions both in Singapore and internationally. These include the SIA Architectural Design Awards, PAM Awards, URA Architectural Heritage Awards, Arcasia Awards for Architecture and Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award. Additionally, Rene was named “Designer of the Year” at Singapore’s President’s Design Awards in 2016.
In 2023, Thames & Hudson published Rethinking the Tropical House: 20 Years of RT+Q Architects. It features 29 of the practice’s works – a small selection from a portfolio of over 120 dwellings built over 20 years.
Inspired by the spirit of the times and his own formative years in music, Rene’s theme for SGAF25 is a reminder to himself, his team, and now all of us: “Don’t (Just) Think Like An Architect!”
