SILA Kayak N Klean Archifest Edition

by Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA)

Much of a landscape architect’s work involves an intimate knowledge of the natural environment, the conservation our natural habitats and the biodiversity, while designing and integrating liveable spaces together with “green” and “blue” infrastructure.

This coastal kayak and cleanup will help raise awareness of the profession’s work, Singapore’s natural ecosystem at Seletar Island, Sg. Simpang and Sg. Khatib Bongsu areas, and the environmental challenges in coastal pollution and erosion. It is also an effort to inculcate a sense of biophilia (love of nature) in the general populace, to help drive the Singapore’s “City in Nature” vision.

Participants must be at least 10 years old.

Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA)

The Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) is a non-profit organization representing the Landscape Architectural professional in Singapore. It was established in 1985 to advance the science and art of Landscape Architecture and the theory and practice of landscape, environmental, and urban design; to promote research and education therein; and to create and maintain a high standard of professional qualification.

Grassroots X Inclusive Spaces - A Panel @ Crane

by Crane

In land scarce Singapore, spaces have been appropriated to suit various social and personal needs in addition to their original function as buildings, structures and homes. The attitude and approach towards the improvisation of space seems to have become part of the intangible localized identity within Singapore. Grassroots X Inclusive Spaces takes a look at the angle of how we create spaces within spaces to make life a little more colourful.

Moderated by Shaiful Risan (Arts Associate of Crane) this session will have a live interchange with Sharon Tan (formerly from The Projector, currently an educator), Zakir Hossain Khokan (former journalist, two time winner of Migrant Poetry Competition) and Chris Leow (Bootle’s, Nutopia open community garden), this will be a (grass)rudimentary approach on the topic and inclusivity narrative.

by Citizen Adventures

The only legalized red light district in Singapore. From the food to the vice, we’ve seen and heard all about it. But have you ever walked through it all? Faced with issues like overcrowding from the influx of foreign workers and the social stigma of prostitution long before the rest of Singapore read it in the news, Geylang has had its share of adventures. Come discuss and witness first hand these issues and the resultant social and environmental impacts.

Maximum 20 pax; minimum take up is 5 pax

Citizen Adventures

We design experiences for citizens to understand neighbourhoods as social ecosystems and their interconnectedness as individuals relative to these systems, and the issues within.

Our involvement regardless big or small, will effect change as a collective.

Beyond raising awareness about neighbourhood-specific issues, we aim to inspire more people to re-examine their own neighbourhoods and realize the need to reframe how we live.

Inspired by his own neighbourhood and family, Yinzhou started walking tours in Geylang and Dakota Crescent, organising events & initiatives advocating for social issues.

Possessing a major in tourism from Murdoch University, Yinzhou recently graduated from Singapore Management University (SMU) with a Masters of Tri-Sector Collaboration.

Yinzhou upholds the ethos of “loving thy neighbour- forming long-lasting friendships with migrant workers and elderly. On weekends, he gives free haircuts with backalleybarbers. For his efforts, he was awarded the Singapore Youth Award in 2017 and featured in the National Day Parade in 2018.

Airlab Exhibition - 3D Printing Architecture for a Better Future

by Airlab SUTD & CDL

Throughout history, material-and technology-driven changes have had a significant impact on architecture. 3D Printing and Digital Design. Today, 3D Printing technologies deliver faster, bigger, stronger, and cheaper outputs. Through a detailed study of a series of built projects developed by the AirLab at SUTD, this exhibition reflects upon the disciplinary implications of an ongoing additive manufacturing revolution.

The event will showcase a series of built designs exploring how additive manufacturing connects to and expands contemporary architectural trends such as freeform design, computational optimization, ornament, sustainability, and systems integration.

The process will be presented from conception to final fabrication, displaying prototypes, computational workflows, and actual 3D Printers generating real components.

Selected Projects:
– CDL Vertical Farming Bio-System
– DB Schenker Upcycling Lab
– Chanel Upcycled Chandeliers
– Netatech 3D Printed Floating Farm

The book “3D Printing Architecture: Workflows, Applications, and Trends” will be presented.

Airlab SUTD & CDL

Founded in 2015 by Carlos Bañon and Felix Raspall, the Architectural Intelligence Research Lab (AirLab) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory focusing on architecture, science, arts, digital design, and production. It combines new technologies and digital manufacturing to create efficient, light, and versatile products to increase sustainability and reduce construction waste in a circular economy paradigm.

The laboratory is established at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). It is led by Carlos, an architect and professor specializing in Digital Design processes and Advanced Manufacturing methods to create more sustainable and adaptable spaces and resource-efficient products.

AirLab work has been exhibited in prestigious venues globally, such as the Design Museum of London, the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, the Seoul Biennale, or the Triennale di Milano, and collected multiple design distinctions, such as two German Design Awards and the Iconic Awards of Innovative Architecture by the German Design Council, the Architizer A+ Best Pavilion Award, the golden A’ Design Award, four Singapore Good Design Marks, and the Singapore President Design Award, the highest distinction for Designs and Designers in Singapore.

ArchiFab Discrete Behaviours Workshop

by School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Singapore Polytechnic

This year’s SP ArchiFab Workshop seeks to provide participants into simulated behavioural agents as design and into scalar 3d printed model. The workshop in-part will investigate the ‘discrete’- unseen patterns or embedded information that are seemingly absent in design outcomes. Proceeding this, the simulated model will be printed into a real-scale 3D prototype with workshop co-partner BigRepSG.

The software, Rhinoceros 7 + Grasshopper will be used for this workshop (some prior experience preferred).

Participants will be given instructions on the installation process after successful registration.

Swiss Embassy Workshop - Innovative sustainable design and solutions in building and construction

by Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore, Deloitte Centre for the Edge Asia, Studio SKLIM, Häring, Affordable Abodes, Hilti, EHL Campus (Singapore)

We are living at the cusp of no-return with regards to climate change. To avert acceleration of climate disasters, significant coordinated global efforts are needed. The building and construction industry contributes to about 40% of the global CO2 emissions.

With over 50% of the global population currently living in cities, rising to over an estimated 70% by 2050, the demand for construction will not abate. How can we reduce the overall carbon footprint of the building and construction industry over the coming decades?

Join us in exploring all domains of sustainable design and solutions in the building and construction industry! These include i.a. building material, circularity and re-use, design for reuse, modular design, and green financing.

We invite designers, material scientists, architects, green financiers, and enthusiasts to participate. The conversation outcomes will ultimately lead to a physical manifestation in the form of a pavilion.
