What makes a place memorable, even if you’re just passing through? Maybe it’s the landscaping that feels relaxing after a stressful day, or the seasonal décor that puts a spring in your step. Does that mural on the MRT station stir up memories and spark a story or two?
That’s placemaking for LTA — the intentional effort to design public transport spaces into places that people enjoy. In other words, turning hardware into heartware.
LTA’s vision is to create a people-centric land transport system that seamlessly connects communities and enhances liveability. Placemaking serves as a catalyst in achieving this vision by fostering a sense of community ownership and pride in our public transport spaces. Our placemaking efforts involve collaborating with local communities to creatively transform public transport spaces into vibrant places that they can co-own. Initiatives such as reimagining our road spaces and Art-in-Transit can make the walk, cycle, ride journey more pleasant and memorable for everyone. By refreshing our approach to infrastructure design, we look forward to a more sustainable, vibrant, and safe land transport system.
