Placemaking embodies a comprehensive approach to the planning, design, and management of public spaces. It transforms these areas into vibrant places where communities forge new memories and enjoy unforgettable experiences. Effective placemaking not only strengthens community ties but also revitalises neighbourhoods, cities, and nations.
In this session, we focus on the diverse techniques and approaches in placemaking. A key part of our discussion will highlight the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) significant role in this field. We will explore how the URA drives placemaking through strategic policies and support, including various frameworks and mechanisms, with the aim of fostering vibrant, inclusive communities. Our exploration will also cover how placemaking strategies are applied in both civic and commercial contexts, while providing practical insights into how these approaches can be effectively utilised and adapted to different settings, illustrating their impact on transforming public spaces into meaningful and engaging parts of our communities.
