Schedule

Reflecting on our Future of Strata Mall project, supported by the Good Design Research grant, I will share the importance of developing a multi-year research agenda to enable a constant feedback loop between research and design in our practice and the resultant impact on the way we design, curate and engage with other projects including the Singapore Archifest 2023, Paya Lebar Airbase Masterplan and a new urban initiative.

Practice Profile

Through a rigorous process of research and ground engagement, Calvin and Spatial Anatomy have collaboratively designed objects, spaces, and strategies for cities across Asia alongside policy makers, grassroots, and local governments. Interweaving inquiry, research and creation, Spatial Anatomy approach the built environment through the agency of research, while practically structuring its design process with engagement. Recent projects include being the Festival Director for Singapore Archifest 2023, exploring the theme of “Interim” as a phenomenon of a city in constant transition and a multi-year research on the future of strata malls in Singapore. Prior to founding his own practice, Calvin worked with leading architecture and urban planning firms in Europe. Under Fundacion Metropoli, Calvin advised policy makers and local governments on innovation and the development of cities. Under with Cecil Balmond, Calvin worked on a mixed-use waterfront development in Colombo. A registered architect in the UK, Calvin graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture.
