A fringe event of Archifest 2024. Come celebrate the book launch of Assembled: Portrait of a Space as we unveil the story behind the book’s creation, and soak in an intimate, no-holds barred conversation, unpacking the pragmatic and visceral natures of “making the intangible, tangible,” in-conversation with Goy Zhenru (GOY Architects), Leong Hon Kit (Wynk Collaborative), Keith Phee (SILO), Yanda (Do Not Design) and Kelley Cheng (The Press Room), moderated by Dennis Cheok (UPSTRS_).

A backdrop against which life unfolds. Expect to witness architects, designers and curators sharing rare creative insights, with a focus on working within heritage shells, and injecting new life, functions, meanings and purpose. The event is meaningfully situated within the newly refurnished Habitatt Space, a sensitively-conserved heritage venue, and home to VIPP and Kompacplus.

Assembled: Portrait of a Space serves as a follow-up to Do Not Design’s publication, “Architecture and The Architect”, which celebrated historically significant buildings in Singapore.

This new book with an installment of interior focus, takes you on an intimate journey into the lives of people in Singapore through the lens of 37 unique residential and commercial spaces. Through a series of features and interviews with both space owners and designers, we unveil the environments that foster community, innovation, and relaxation.

Featured designers (to name a few) in this book include: Linghao Architects, Neri&Hu, NICE Projects, Takenouchi Webb, GOY Architects, Wynk Collaborative, L Architects, Hjgher, SILO, Laank, Farm, Formwerkz, Parable Studio, Kaizen Architecture, Ministry of Design, Brewin Design, Asylum, UPSTRS_, and photographers (to name a few) Fabian Ong, Khoo Guo Jie, Finbarr Fallon, Jovian Lim, Marc Tan, Darren Soh.

Contributors are welcomed to pick up their complimentary copy of the book. Guests will also enjoy a discount off the book at the launch event. Free entry, Registration encouraged.

Assembled: Portrait of a Space is published and designed by Do Not Design, written by Arielle Lynn Huang and edited by Joyce Yang.

Supported by Archifest, Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) & VIPP / Kompacplus.

SUPPORTER
Singapore Archifest is an annual architecture festival commissioned by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). It aims to bring together industry professionals as well as members of the general public to celebrate the city’s architecture and built environment, whilst engaging in meaningful and productive architectural discourse.

Singapore Archifest is a space for imagination, conversation, and speculation. It intends to be a platform for people from all walks of life to participate in uninhibited dialogue, creative collaboration, and thoughtful, collective deliberation, in relation to contemporary architectural issues. And with every iteration of the festival, we work towards the cultivation of a more design-conscious society and vibrant creative culture.

As the SIA celebrates its 60th anniversary since its establishment in 1963, in 2023, it reflects on its past achievements that have shaped today’s landscape of architectural excellence and asks what can be done the next 60 years and more.

The theme for Archifest 2024 is ‘The Performance of Measurement WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH?’ Visit www.archifest.sg for more events.
