Architectural Association School of Architecture
The Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) is not a school that teaches architecture as it is already known. Rather, it creates the conditions for new forms of teaching, working, and above all, thinking and learning, that will ultimately transform architecture in ways not yet fully realised. This has long been the central ambition of the AA School, which has for decades been home to the world’s leaders – and leading experimenters – in architecture. The AA is a famously independent educational experiment; it is self-directed, self-motivated, even self-funded. As the UK’s oldest and only remaining private school of architecture, it has grown up alongside – and, to a very great degree, helped shape – the architectural profession.
As a small and independent school located at the heart of the world’s most international and multicultural city, the AA is unique in at least three important ways. Firstly, the AA is by far the world’s most international school of architecture, with nearly ninety per cent of its full-time students and nearly as many of its teachers coming to the AA from abroad. Secondly, the AA organises itself around two distinct kinds of activities, both of which are of immense value to students and staff: the formal courses and programmes, and the public programme of evening lectures, symposia, exhibitions, and publication launches – the world’s largest year-round series of public events dedicated to contemporary architectural culture. Thirdly, there is the famous pedagogical basis for the school itself: the ‘unit’ system of teaching and learning in which, in various ways, all students participate as the foundation for the experimental forms of teaching that remain the hallmark of the AA.
Lighting Planners Associates

Since then, LPA has been involved in projects ranging in scope from residential to large-scale urban planning, and have collaborated with architects such as Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, Arata Isozaki, Fumihiko Maki, and Rafael Vinoly. In Singapore, the office has been actively working with architects such WOHA, W Architects, MKPL, Kerry Hill Architects, DP Architects, Architects 61, and RSP Architects Planners and Engineers. LPA has also worked with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to develop a new lighting master plan for the city centre.
